Nortel Showcases LTE Live Air Handover on LG Mobile Device
August 29, 2008
By means of Nortel's 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) solution and LG's early LTE mobile device, the two companies have successfully showcased high-speed LTE live air handover at Nortel's Research and Development Centre of Excellence in Ottawa, Canada, according to a 3G Newsletter report on August 28. Employing Nortel's eNodeB LTE base station and ATCA-based Access Gateway, the demonstration achieved the streaming of high-definition video on the move in a vehicle traveling at over 100km per hour past successive coverage sites. Interoperability between the system network and the mobile device conforms to the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) Release 8 Standard. Commercialization of Nortel's LTE solution is slated by year-end 2009.
